DragonBall: Episode 010
(Originally aired 30 April 1986)

D.B.(ドラゴンボール)うばわれる!!
"Doragon Bôru Ubawareru!!"
("The Dragon Balls Are Stolen!!")

Chapter 018 begins:
"Doragon Bôru Ubawareru!!" / "The Dragon Balls Are Stolen!!"

Canon Segment: 1 Minute, 3 Seconds

As the gang leaves the previous town and rides through the mushroom-filled desert, Bulma happily declares that they are fast approaching the final Dragon Ball.

This prompts Oolong to ask her what exactly she will use the Dragon Balls for, so she tells him: a boyfriend. Oolong cannot believe this is what they have been risking their lives for all this time!

Filler Segment: 3 Minutes, 20 Seconds

Oolong stops paying attention the road as he argues with Bulma, causing him to nearly wreck the car. A surveillance bird watches the car drive by from above.

Not far behind them, Pu'er tells Yamcha that he thinks they will probably get the last Dragon Ball soon. Yamcha then reiterates his eagerness to get over his fear of women.

At Pilaf's castle, Pilaf angrily asks Mai if she has finished making a Dragon Radar yet. He threatens to feed her to some alligators that he has just lowered from the ceiling if she does not finish by the count of ten. Mai decides to distract his count by bringing up what to have for dinner, and a cute girl. To further interrupt, Shuu suddenly returns, and not with news of the Dragon Balls... but news that it is now Pilaf's naptime! Mai then finishes making her Radar, with the Balls' location appearing on the screen. She reads off the directions to it, so Shuu follows them, only to end up at the Dragon Ball they already have! Pilaf scolds them for their incompetence, but Mai says they know where the monkey boy is as the surveillance bird returns.

Canon Segment: 59 Seconds

Perched high above the road atop a mushroom, Mai informs Pilaf via radio of the car passing by. Pilaf orders her to execute the plan. She then radios Shuu, asking him if he sees the car.

Oolong, meanwhile, insists that she wish for something better, considering all that they have gone through. She retorts that he has not been of much use anyway.

Filler Segment: 56 Seconds

Oolong suddenly slams the brakes, so Bulma scolds his driving. Oolong suggests that maybe she should drive, considering she just said he was not useful. The two continue arguing, while Shuu watches, chuckling about them fighting amongst themselves. Yamcha also watches, worrying that this is not the time for them to be doing this. Bulma tells Oolong to get back behind the wheel, since the Yi Xing Qiu [One-Star Ball] is so close. When the pig refuses, she calls out "Pee Pee Pee", and Oolong rushes behind a giant mushroom to relieve himself. As Oolong reluctantly returns and starts the engine back up, Shuu, in his mecha suit, targets the car, and fires a missile!

Canon Segment: 1 Minute, 32 Seconds

The missile hits the car dead on, destroying it and tossing the three passengers aside. Shuu flies over to the wreckage in his mecha, and rummages through it while the gang is still in shock. He finds the case with the Dragon Balls, and then declares his success before rocketing away. Bulma yells at Goku to hurry up and catch that guy, since he took the Dragon Balls. Goku then calls for Kinto-Un, and flies off to find Shuu.

Filler Segment: 33 Seconds

Bulma yells out to Goku that she is counting on him. Meanwhile, Shuu leaves his mecha suit behind, and he and Mai then prepare to take off in a plane. Mai thinks everything went well. Shuu adds that Pilaf will be quite happy with their success. They cheer excitedly as they continue flying back to the castle.

Canon Segment: 4 Minutes, 2 Seconds

Goku spots the empty mecha suit and lands, telling it that it should not steal people's stuff. When it does not respond, Goku jabs it with his , knocking it over. Goku assumes him to be dead, commenting that he was rather weak.

Back at the wreckage, Oolong thinks they should just give up, offering to be Bulma's boyfriend himself. Goku then returns, saying he beat the guy up, but the Dragon Balls were gone. Bulma figures those guys must have had the seventh Ball, too, and thinks it is all over... until Goku points out that he still has his Si Xing Qiu!

Bulma laughs arrogantly over this, and declares that they will find the thieves' location with the Dragon Radar. Oolong points out that they no longer have a car, and she suddenly realizes that all her Capsules were in the case with the Dragon Balls.

Yamcha, still secretly watching with Pu'er, realizes he will have to help them again. He drives over to them, feigning surprise over seeing them here.

Filler Segment: 2 Minutes, 14 Seconds

Bulma acts flirtatiously towards Yamcha, causing him to get quite nervous and embarrassed. She asks him to close his eyes, which makes him think a kiss is coming. She also tells Pu'er to close his eyes, though. As it turns out, her real reason was so she could check the Dragon Radar. She then tells him he can open his eyes now, and asks him to go 25 kilometers to the west, which is where the Radar had indicated. Goku thinks they are weirdos.

At the castle, Pilaf looks into the box of Dragon Balls, and begins dancing arounds happily while holding a globe. He is quite excited to have all seven Dragon Balls at last, but Mai and Shuu interrupt his celebration by telling him they only have six here.

Pilaf eventually checks, and notes that the Si Xing Qiu is indeed missing.

Canon Segment: 1 Minute, 8 Seconds

Pilaf had expected them to count the Dragon Balls first. The two of them apologize for their mistake. However, their Radar indicates that the seventh Ball is on its way here, anyway, making Pilaf think of how the world will soon be his. The gang reaches the castle, in awe over its size, while Yamcha gasps for breath. Mai also informs Pilaf that they have arrived already. Pilaf says that was fast, and assumes they also have a Radar.

Filler Segment: 3 Minutes, 15 Seconds

Pilaf thinks these guys will be captured, now. Meanwhile, even though this place appears abandoned, Bulma says it is where the Dragon Balls are. Goku struggles to push open the door to the castle, and the five of them then slowly enter. They creep through the halls, until bats suddenly fly down from the ceiling, scaring Bulma into grabbing onto Yamcha. He quickly pushes her aside and gasps for air, thinking she is worse than the bats.

A spider watches as Goku turns a corner, with the others just behind him. One of the bricks on the floor crumbles beneath him as he steps on it, and pillars of bricks suddenly begin shooting from the walls, floor, and ceiling. Goku and Yamcha fight off and smash all the pillars, though, and Bulma again futilely attempts to seek comfort in Yamcha's arms. Watching them on a monitor, Pilaf cannot believe they survived, and complains about the quality of the trap. Mai points out he had created it himself.

Canon Segment: 1 Minute, 32 Seconds

The five of them continue to creep through the castle, with Yamcha suggesting they be careful, as this is no ordinary foe. Goku suddenly notices arrows painted on the floor, so the gang heads in the direction they point to, which leads them to... a dead end, where a wall drops down behind them to completely close them in.

Mai tells Pilaf that they have already been captured. Pilaf is shocked that they were caught by such a dumb trap.

THIS AND THAT:

ALTERED SCENE:

The dialogue before Mai and Shuu attack the car is slightly different in the manga, mostly because the first castle scene did not occur there. For one, it is implied that they do not particularly know who to look for... just where. Mai also informs Shuu that the reason they are after this car is because they have the Dragon Balls, since (unlike the anime) this is the very first appearance of these characters, and thus it is new information to the audience that they are after the Dragon Balls. Also, in the manga, Shuu is called Soba during this dialogue, though he is always called Shuu after this (due to Toriyama giving him a new name for the anime, forgetting that he had already named him "Soba" in this bit of manga dialogue).

Mai and Shuu's escape vehicle differs between versions. They have a car in the manga, and a plane in the anime. They are also shown leaving at a different time in each version, and Shuu's line greatly differs: in the anime, he just thinks Pilaf will be glad, while in the manga, he states that Pilaf will now be able to take over the whole world. This is likely because the anime audience was already quite familiar with Pilaf's intention, but this is the first mention of it in the manga.

MISSING SCENE:
n/a
MISCELLANEOUS:

In the manga, Yamcha does not appear until after Bulma realizes that her Capsules were taken along with the Dragon Balls. Therefore, all of his appearances in the anime prior to that are filler.

Goku's encounter with the empty mecha suit is extended quite a bit in the anime.

When Yamcha realizes he has no choice but to help Goku and the others, there is an extra bit of dialogue in the anime where Pu'er brings up the fact that he would have to be around Bulma.

There are minor extensions to the dialogue when Pilaf discusses the approach of the seventh Dragon Ball, and when Goku and friends get out of the car when they arrive there.
