DragonBall: Episode 011
(Originally aired 7 May 1986)

ついに龍(ドラゴン)あらわる!
"Tsui ni Doragon Arawaru!"
("Finally, the Dragon Appears!")

Filler Segment: 1 Minute, 40 Seconds

The gang's capture after following the arrows into a dead end is briefly recapped. Mai and Shuu then rummage through the car, wondering where the Dragon Ball could be. Inside the cell, meanwhile, Bulma complains about being trapped, which causes Goku to wonder if a "trap" is food.

Canon Segment: 55 Seconds

Pilaf is quite excited about soon becoming the king of the world, but Mai and Shuu interrupt to inform him that the Dragon Ball was not in the car. Pilaf assumes this to mean one of them must be holding it, though it does not appear that way when viewing their cell on the monitor. Mai suggests that it is between the man's legs. Pilaf grows silent, and then reminds her he hates those kind of gags. Mai apologizes.

Filler Segment: 50 Seconds

Yamcha and Goku each take fighting stances, and respectively use the Rôgafûfûken and Janken "Guu" to try to bust through the walls. Both of their attacks prove ineffective. Yamcha swears in frustration about the wall being too hard, while Goku comments that his punch did not work either.

Pilaf suddenly appears on a monitor on the wall, and tells them they cannot break through his walls.

Canon Segment: 5 Minutes, 23 Seconds

Pilaf then introduces himself. Bulma asks if he is the one that took her Dragon Balls. He confirms this, admitting that he is missing one. Goku wants to open the window and pull that guy out, so Yamcha explains that it is a television. Pilaf knows they have the Ball with four stars, and demands they hand it over. Bulma refuses, however, and sticks her tongue out. Since she refused, Pilaf is now going to do something "naughty". A mechanical arm suddenly pulls Bulma through the ceiling, and into Pilaf's control room.

Pilaf gives her one last chance to tell him where the Dragon Ball is, but she gives him the finger this time. Now, Pilaf has no choice but to punish her, so he... blows her a kiss! Pilaf expects her to talk now, while Mai and Shuu blush in the background. Bulma then admits confusion regarding this strange tactic, explaining all the worse things she thought he had meant. Pilaf promptly sends this awful, perverted girl back down into the cell.

Mai suggests using sleeping gas to put the prisoners to sleep so they can search, which Pilaf thinks is a great idea. The sleeping gas suddenly shoots out of the walls and clouds up the cell, knocking the five of them out cold. Pilaf enters the cell shortly afterward, and prepares to look for the Dragon Ball. Unlike Mai and Shuu, though, he has forgotten his gas mask... so he himself is knocked out by leftover traces of the sleeping gas. Shuu tends to Pilaf, while Mai searches until she finds the Si Xing Qiu [Four-Star Ball] in Goku's pouch.

Filler Segment: 7 Minutes, 50 Seconds

In his room, Pilaf dreams of holding the Dragon Balls, and then tripping and dropping them all as he hears Mai call out to him. He slowly wakes up to find that she really is calling him. She tells him they have all seven Dragon Balls, which perks him up right away. Pilaf walks over as she opens the case, where the splendor of the seven Dragon Balls radiates the entire room, and then some. Pilaf is ecstatic.

Bulma slowly wakes up and notices Goku's empty pouch on the floor. Realizing what has happened, she yells at the boys to wake up. When that does not work, she climbs over Yamcha and begins to wake Goku up forcefully. The commotion wakes up Yamcha, whose eyes bulge out when he sees Bulma's cleavage above him, causing him to scream and jump away. All this noise wakes Goku, who freaks out when he realizes what happened to Grandpa. Bulma cries, worrying that the bad guys are getting their wish granted right now.

Pu'er notices that there is now an exit, so the five of them quickly race down the hall. They then bump into Pilaf and his henchmen at an intersection, who are shocked to see them. Bulma asks if they have made their wish yet, to which Pilaf shakes his head. Goku then demands they give Grandpa back, and starts chasing after Pilaf, Mai, and Shuu. But after turning a corner, the gang loses sight of them in a room with multiple paths.

In his control room, Pilaf scolds his henchmen for letting them escape. It is not over yet, though, as he turns his control panel into a musical keyboard which he uses to send Goku and the others bouncing into a room shaped like a giant pinball machine. Pilaf continues playing the keys to send a giant pinball around the room after them. The ball smashes Goku into a wall, while the others find the exit and call for Goku to follow. The pinball chases after them, all throughout the halls of the castle, until they find themselves at a dead end. The ball finally stops just short of smashing them, and slowly rolls away. A wall then drops down, closing them in again! Pilaf appears on the monitor to tell them that was fun, but now he is going to summon the dragon.

Canon Segment: 3 Minutes, 51 Seconds

Outside the castle, Pilaf cackles about finally taking over the world. Back inside, Yamcha tells Goku to use a Kamehameha to bust through, like Muten-Roshi did. Goku wonders how he knows about that, but Yamcha brushes it off, while Pilaf prepares to summon Shenlong. Goku then launches a Kamehameha, and it does make a hole in the wall... but a rather small one. Yamcha looks through the hole and notices them outside, so he tells Pu'er to change into a bat and steal the Dragon Balls. Bulma then demands that Oolong make himself useful and do the same, or else she will call out "Pee Pee" again. Oolong and Pu'er quickly flap their wings through the air, just as Pilaf calls out the dragon, who begins rising through the air...

THIS AND THAT:

ALTERED SCENE:

The first scene in the prison cell is quite different between the anime and manga. In the manga version, Yamcha says "Kusooo! Kanzen ni tojikomerareta!" ("Damnit! We're completely closed in!") as he pounds on the walls in frustration. In the anime, he is not even in this scene, and his line (minus the "kuso!") is given to Bulma. Oolong then has a line, in which he reminds everyone that he was against going in all along: this is the same in both versions. After that, in the manga, Goku says "Ora no panchi demo akanee zo" ("Even my punch won't open it"), while in the anime, it turns into a conversation between he and Bulma where he ends up thinking "wana" ("trap") is a kind of food.

When Mai apologizes for her dirty joke, she does so quite differently in the manga. In the anime, she simply says "Moushiwake arimasen" ("That was inexcusable"), while in the manga, she says "Shitsurei shimashita" ("I'm sorry/That was rude of me") while holding poo on a stick, which is (of course) a Dr. Slump reference.

When the DB gang wakes up from the sleeping gas in the manga, the pinball scene does not occur. Instead, there is simply a brief sequence in which Yamcha and Goku try breaking down the walls again, in which Yamcha complains "...kono kabe katasugite..." ("these walls are too hard"). The two versions sync up when Yamcha tells Goku to use Kamehameha.

MISSING SCENE:

After Mai apologizes while holding her stick in the manga, Pilaf begins scolding her for it, reminding her that the author is trying to be more tasteful in this manga. He also explains that Shônen Jump is read by a lot of people, so she must avoid doing such shameful things, while Shuu flies around in the background.

After Pilaf finishes scolding Mai in the manga, Yamcha says, "Hanakuso no himitsu o sotto ha-na-ku-sou." (Literally, "I'm going to softly tell you the secret of snot.") Pu'er questions him, so Yamcha explains it was a pun. Oolong complains that if he has time to think of such a stupid pun, he should use it to think of a way of escaping. Yamcha argues back that he was trying to lighten everyone up. This entire scene is replaced by the filler scene in which Yamcha and Goku use Rôgafûfûken and Janken to try to bust out. Both this missing manga scene and the filler scene begin with Yamcha's face, however.

MISCELLANEOUS:

There were two instances of Yamcha and Goku attempting to break through the prison cell walls in the manga that did not appear in the anime. The second one would have contradicted the pinball sequence, of course, and the first one was probably removed because of the filler scene used to replace Yamcha's pun, in which they try to break out with their special attacks. During that filler scene, some dialogue from the manga is used. Yamcha says "Kuso! Kono kabe wa katasugiru!" ("Damnit! These walls are too hard!") which is practically a combination of the two lines quoted above when describing the altered scenes. Goku's line is also almost there during this filler scene, as "Ora no panchi demo dame da" ("Even my punch is no use").
