Daizenshuu EX - Updates from January 2003

[ Previous Month - n/a ] [ Next Month - February 2003 ]

New MP3s, New Tracklisting, New Music Video
VegettoEX @ 4:05 pm EST -- Whee, lots o' fun content to throw in for an update. I've been taking some song requests (mostly via "Tenkai") for what people are looking to hear, so I threw up a few of them over on the "Music Downloads" page. Expect to see a few more of the requests, soon.

Speaking of music, Julian's gone and translated the entire next 3-CD set due out in Japan next month. Check out the "CD Sets" page in the "Music Database." This makes six of a total nine CDs in the massive 3 discs / 3 sets collection.

Finally... there's a new music video. I've decided that since this *is* a "DragonBall" website, I should be paying attention to what I feel are some of the best DB videos out there. I'm starting this by creating the "Featured Video" page over in the "Music Videos" section.

The first video featured is "Fathers and Sons" by Akimbo of More Than Toast. Congrats, man... damn awesome video. Everyone go check it out, and be sure to let him know what you think.

Ultimate Battle 22... domestic or not?
VegettoEX @ 2:05 am EST -- First off, I'd like to say that I'm quite well aware that dragonballtoys.com has been plugging this information for quite some time, but there just hasn't been anything ANYWHERE to actually CONFIRM this in some way online. I refuse to ever post anything unless I can personally confirm it :D.

Apparently, Infogrames really is translating "Ultimate Battle 22" for PS1.

At least in Australia.

According to the Australian site, the game is being released on March 14th of this year. However, their main site (and more specifically, the DBZ games section linked off the main page) makes absolutely NO mention of this game.

Although... it would seem that the game has been released in Europe before, and now they're RE-releasing it... along with "Final Bout"...

(UPDATE: apparently, GameStop is offering the game up for pre-order on their site with a release date of 25 March 2003 and a price tag of a mere $19.99... thanks to the dozen or so people who e-mailed me with this ^^)

Thanks to the kind folks in this MadMan forum thread for pointing out the link to the Australian site.

More news as / if it comes...

Be sure to read the below update, because it's more important to the site's content than this is :P.

Updates, Updates, Updates...
VegettoEX @ 2:56 pm EST -- First of all, I'd like to extend a HUGE thanks to everyone who's been plugging away for the site (especially Anime News Network; thanks, guys!). The only thing I'd like to ask of you all is that you link to the domain name (daizex.com) and not my Rutgers address. Thanks!

Julian's been putting in some crazy work over in the "Music Database." We've now got the "CD Sets" page with fully re-done romanizations, translations, and artist information. Be sure to check it out! Remember, it's here that you'll find the track listings for the brand spankin' new music volumes coming out in Japan!

The "Images" section finally returns. I've only thrown back up three of the sections, but the "Character Designs" is always a favorite, so that indeed has returned.

Also, I've put up the "Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)" page. Please be sure to read it over before e-mailing any of us :D.

So what's coming next? Personally, I'm working on getting all the old editorials back up (and writing at least two new ones, myself!), possibly some more images, and a few new things for the site. Julian's always working on lyrics and music database adventures. 707's keeping care of "Tenkai" for the moment (and now that we've got new people coming in, again, expect the "Gold" status back on the board, so no more ads).

Oh.. any for anyone interested in my music videos (all three of you), here's a little clip from my next project (of course, this is ridiculously low quality; the final version will not be :P). This video will be a part of the "Jet Set Radio / Future" anime music video project, which is basically taking a bunch of songs from the JSR/F soundtracks and creating some megamixes, with music videos made from them. Expect to see more of it in the near future.

Until later~~~

Say wha... ?
VegettoEX @ 11:58 pm EST -- The last official update to "Daizenshuu EX" was 24 September 2001. That makes it... *counts*.... 1 year, 4 months. Exactly.

What a great break it's been!

Some of you are asking, "Where have you been for a year?" Some of you are asking, "What the Hell is this site, and why should I care?" Both are quite valid questions.

Let's start from the beginning.

This site began as "VegettoEX's Home Page" in January of 1998. It rested on AOL's 2 MB of server space for all HTML files, so it was really never down.

In 1999, the site changed into "Daizenshuu EX" and rested on good friend SREDBZ's own server, "sreanime.net." For some time, we had unlimited storage space, unlimited bandwidth... basically, it was the good old days of the internet. Then that big ol' company that ran all huge sites back in those days (their name has been purged from my memory) went out of business. We didn't even get a notice. We found out through CNN. It was pretty funny.

In 2000, we moved over to "pokeball.net" thanks to the offer of good friends over there. For some time, we had no problems. Soon enough, however, there came long bouts of downtime, changed passwords, etc. It got to the point where (coincidentally) after September 11th, the servers just died, never to be restored, and we were sore out of luck.

So I took a break. A really long break. A muchly needed really long break.

And now I'm back. I brought some friends.

The site is now residing on my university storage space. It's hardly ever down, I've got a domain name (www.daizex.com) pointing to it so you'll ALWAYS know where we are... I think we're in good hands, again.

This layout was actually started way back in 2001. I just never got around to doing anything with it. Over the course of the year, I've been fine-tuning it thanks to help from old friend Tenks, and it's more or less kickin' pretty good.

Long-time fans of the site should still remember good ol' 707. He's still a lovable teddy-bear. Say "Hi, I love your magnets" to him over on "Tenkai."

Many of you should recognize the name Julian Grybowski. He's the new guy, here. Julian did some work for "Planet Namek" shortly before their impending demise, and has been a huge player in the community ever since, keeping close tabs on manga distributor Viz Communications, and along with myself, being a regular posted on the newsgroup alt.fan.dragonball.

So whatever. You probably just want to know what's new on the site. Good! There's plenty.

MUSIC DATABASE:

The music database has been vastly enlarged with both domestic, Japanese, and other foreign CD releases. There's well over 50 CDs catalogued, including the first fully translated track listing for the brand spankin' new "Complete Song Collection" CD set, just released in Japan days ago. There's even two more of these sets being released, soon!

MUSIC DOWNLOADS:

Long-time fans of the site will know that "Daizenshuu EX" has always been about the music. From the days of hosting 80 billion tracks from every CD you didn't know even existed, to the days of not being able to hold a single MP3 on a server, we've always been there. You'll notice that the catalogue and downloads are in two different sections. The downloads section is starting out with a dozen of what we consider the best and rarest of all the "DragonBall" songs we could dig up. Acoustic, live, performed by other bands... it's there. And it's only going to grow.

MUSIC VIDEOS:

Yes. You can still download Scott Melzer's DBZ / "This is Your Life" video : ). In addition to this, I'm hosting not only my own music videos, but a wide range of Scott's and Co.'s videos, as well. My newest videos (including "Alone in the World," "DDR Project 2: Smoke" and "Nobody Blink!") are all there.

LYRICS:

OK, so there's been lyrics on this site in the past, and many others. What's different this time? Julian's not only romanized them, but he's fully translated them... line for line. They're insane, they're awesome, and you can't wait to sing along!

MANGA REFERENCE GUIDE:

Julian's first huge contribution to the site comes in the form of this massive guide. Ever want to know what each monthly release of Viz's comic corresponds to? Want to know original Japanese release dates? Want to have fully translated chapter titles? Think of anything else related to the manga, and it's here. Updated as often as possible!

NEWBIE GUIDE:

Totally re-written, with a ridiculous amount of information added, the one and only crash-course into the world of "DragonBall." Newbies and long-time fans, alike, will find something they didn't know.

EDITORIALS:

We're ready to take submissions, once more! In addition to that, you'll find ALL... that's right ALL of the editorials EVER hosted on "Daizenshuu EX" up for viewing. And that's not all... coming soon will be even more of a blast from the past... every editorial ever hosted on "VegettoEX's Home Page" !

FEATURE:

There's a ton of big news in the world of "DragonBall," recently. From DVD boxsets (both in the US and Japan), domestic announcements, new music collections, etc... There's tons of stuff you NEED to be caught up on. We've collected it all into 2003's premiere "Feature": all the latest news you're dying to know.

..... *phew*. That all is just a taste of what's to come. We're all constantly going to be picking apart and updating the site, adding new things, etc. etc. etc. We all definitely look forward to what's to come, and the process that generates it.

Big, huge, exteme, incredible thanks to Julian, who made this site and update what it is. I couldn't have done it without him.

Visit us again soon!
