Daizenshuu EX - Multimedia - Music Database - CD Sets

The Never Ending Story two disc set is more or less the "best collection" of music from the Hit Song CDs. The first disc is very up-tempo, while the second disc is much slower paced.

The DragonBall & DragonBall Z: Daizenshuu five disc set is more or less what every fan of DB music is looking for. Disc 1 is the opening/closing themes from the first DB TV series, many episode insert songs, and some image songs sung (in-character) by the seiyû from the show. Disc 2 is all BGM from the first TV series. Disc 3 is opening/closing themes from the Z TV series, as well as insert songs, image songs, and the closing themes for the TV specials and first 8 movies. Disc 4 is all BGM from the Z TV series. Disc 5 is all BGM from all DB movies and the first 9 DBZ movies, and also includes the ending theme to DBZ movie 9.

The Complete Song Collection sets are relatively new releases in Japan (January, February, March, and April 2003, respectively) compiling pretty much all of the vocal songs ever released on any DBZ CD, both image songs and those actually used in the series or movies. They’re pretty cheap considering that they’re three discs each, so you should definitely check them out.

The Best Song Collection and Complete BGM Collection sets saw their release in February 2006. The former comprises all the movie ending themes, a couple TV themes, and various image songs; the latter comprises a great deal of previously-released and previously-unreleased background music from the TV series and movies.

The original Japanese title is written in blue, and underneath it in red is the English translation (where applicable). Underneath that in the smaller font is the artist.

What a wonderful little two CD set! I got this before the 5 CD set, so it was probably that much better for that time being. There’s a lot of image songs, but there are also two tracks on this set you won’t find anywhere else (other than the original Hit Song CDs they appeared on, and the newly-released DBZ Complete Song Collections): "Mind Power" and "Unmei no Hi." The former is played during Future Trunks’ flashback during the Jinzôningen saga; the latter is the now-famous song played during Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 transformation scene in DBZ episode 184, versus Perfect Cell. Both are wonderful songs, and let Hironobu Kageyama show off a little. Disc two is a little slower paced, but with songs like "Hikari no Tabi" and "FOR EVER~," it's definitely worth it. If you've thought about getting the Complete Song Collection sets, but are short of cash and/or don't like the character songs, this is the set to buy. Try to get the original Columbia version, if you can (since the ones on eBay are almost exclusively the SonMay bootleg). It's still in production, and can be ordered at Amazon Japan.
