DragonBall: Episode 006
(Originally aired 2 April 1986)

真夜中の訪問者たち
"Mayonaka no Houmonshatachi"
("The Midnight Visitors")

Chapter 009 begins:
"Doragonbôru Ayaushi!!" / "The Dragon Balls in Danger!!"

Canon Segment: 3 minutes, 5 seconds

As the sun sets over the desert, the gang pauses their journey to relax in Oolong's motor home. While Goku chows down on dinner (to quite an immense degree, per his usual style), Bulma asks where the bathroom is.

Oolong shows her, and she complains and tells him not to peep. Oolong thinks to himself that he will not have to... clearly having ulterious motives for so kindly showing her the location, when this seems quite out of character for him...

Filler Segment: 1 minute, 26 seconds

Night has now fallen; Mai and Shuu, riding in mecha, report to Pilaf that they have found "them". Pilaf tells his lackeys to carry out the plan. They get out of their mecha and prepare to place a bomb under the motor home. They hear someone approaching, just as Shuu gets the bomb stuck to his hand. The two of them then run off. The ones they had heard approaching were Yamcha and Pu'er, who hide behind a pillar.

Canon Segment: 5 minutes, 59 seconds

Yamcha notes that the Capsule they had was a motor home. Pu'er thinks it will be harder to steal. Yamcha tells him all they need to do is single out the girl and lead her away. They then run over to spy. Meanwhile, inside, Oolong worries that Yamcha will attack again. Goku thinks it will be no problem now that he has a full stomach. Oolong suddenly wonders why they are traveling and heading to a terrible place like Mount Frypan anyway. Goku explains that there is a Dragon Ball there, and shows his Si Xing Qiu to Oolong, who has never heard of Dragon Balls.

Bulma, meanwhile, enjoys a relaxing shower. Yamcha and Pu'er hide under a window, where they hear her humming. Yamcha peeks through the window to see if the others are asleep, but is scared speechless by what he sees! They then hear Oolong and Goku's conversation, and creep over to another window to listen. Oolong asks that when you have all seven of these Dragon Balls, a dragon will grant you a wish, and Goku confirms it. He asks how many they have, so Goku explains five, with the sixth at Mount Frypan.

Yamcha pulls Pu'er off to the side, and says that they could make a wish so that he will not be afraid of women anymore. He is not interested in world domination or riches, but he does long to get married. Back inside, Oolong says the only thing he is interested in is women. Goku asks what he likes women for, since they don't even have anything down there. Just then, Bulma bonks Goku on the head. Oolong offers the two of them some juice, as he smirks to himself. Bulma then heads upstairs to sleep, threatening Oolong if he tries anything. Goku suddenly dozes off, meaning the sleeping medicine in the juice worked...

Filler Segment: 49 seconds

Mai and Shuu fiddle with the bomb, which is on the verge of exploding right then and there. However, just in the nick of time, Shuu manages to set it to not go off until 8:00 AM, thus sparing their lives.

Back in the motor home, meanwhile, Oolong confirms that Goku is completely out. He then creeps his way upstairs...

Canon Segment: 4 minutes, 34 seconds

Now that the coast is clear, Yamcha tells Pu'er to turn into a key so they can get in, while Oolong continues heading towards Bulma. All they find inside is a sleeping Goku, though. Yamcha tells Pu'er to turn into the boy and lead the other two outside. Hearing noise downstairs, Oolong thinks Goku may have woken up. He peeks down, and sees "Goku" on his way up, so he quickly hides Bulma under her blankets and transforms into her. "Bulma" says that Oolong went for a walk, and "Goku" suggests that they also go outside for something important. Once they are gone, Yamcha heads upstairs to look for the Dragon Balls. He thinks they must be hidden under the blanket. Outside, Pu'er decides to reveal himself, which prompts Oolong to do the same. Pu'er realizes what this means, and it is confirmed by Yamcha's scream. He runs back to the motor home and leads the drooling Yamcha back to their hideout.

Chapter 009 ends

Chapter 010 begins:
"Gôtô Daisakusen" / "Grand Robbery Scheme"

In the morning, Goku wakes up to find that Oolong had stayed up all night watching for the bad guys, who had come by during the night. Bulma stumbles downstairs asking if Oolong washed her clothes overnight. He explains that he did not, because he was watching for Yamcha. While she daydreams about him, Oolong tells her he has something she can wear upstairs. Oolong regrets having given the sleeping medicine to Goku, who is hungry.

Filler Segment: 27 seconds

Mai and Shuu successfully attach the bomb to the motor home. They report to Pilaf, who yells at them for not having it done by 10:00 PM last night. Mai swears they will not fail, and they will have it in an hour.

Canon Segment: 4 minutes, 34 seconds

Goku enjoys a month's worth of food, and then Bulma returns. She does not like this bunny outfit at all, but Oolong tells her it is all he had. Nonetheless, she wants to head off now, and makes Oolong drive while she applies make-up and such. As they drive through the desert, they suddenly notice Yamcha in a vehicle nearby. Bulma gets excited and wants to see him, as he fires a missile at their motor home and causes it to crash, knocking her unconscious in the process.

Goku angrily asks them what they are doing, so Yamcha demands they hand over the Dragon Balls. Goku refuses, and charges towards Yamcha. Yamcha then passes his weapon to Pu'er and prepares to fight back with Rôgafûfûken. The two of them trade blows, until Goku knocks one of Yamcha's teeth out. Feeling disgraced over how this affects his looks, Yamcha drives away, leaving Goku confused. Yamcha decides that they will instead follow those guys and wait for them to gather all seven Dragon Balls, and then steal them.

Filler Segment: 22 seconds

Mai and Shuu get out of their mecha to inspect the wreckage of the motor home. Mai is convinced that the bomb went off, even though it is not 8:00 yet.

She thinks the timer must have malfunctioned, and wants to search the wreckage for the Dragon Balls. Shuu shrugs and helps her, as the bomb secretly ticks away...

Canon Segment: 4 minutes, 34 seconds

Oolong and Goku, with the unconscious Bulma on his back, slowly walk through the desert, until they see Yamcha return. He smiles and says he was being bad before, and gives them a car to make up for it. He then says goodbye and drives off. Oolong is quite suspicious, but Goku is happy about Yamcha's apparent change of heart. But of course, Oolong was not wrong to be suspicious, since Yamcha and Pu'er are secretly tracking this car's movement...

THIS AND THAT:

ALTERED SCENE:
The order of some events are changed in the anime. In the manga, Goku and Oolong begin discussing the Dragon Balls before Yamcha and Pu'er arrive and prepare to spy. This is reversed in the anime, probably due to the filler segment with Mai and Shuu.

After Bulma gets out of the shower, she asks Oolong for a pair of pajamas in the anime. He offers a pair of his, and she declines since they would be too small. However, in the manga, she had asked for some pajamas before getting into the shower (noted under "Missing Scenes"), and he says he will lend her a pair of his. Then, when she gets out of the shower in the manga, she is holding the pajamas and complaining they are too small, which prompts Oolong to remind her that he had said they were his.

In the manga, when Pu'er and Yamcha prepare to break into the motor home, Oolong had not yet headed upstairs, and they knew both boys were down there. When they enter, Yamcha also wonders where Oolong is.

Some other events also had their order changed. In the manga, when morning comes, Oolong talks to Goku for a while and has their dialogue by the sink before Bulma comes downstairs demanding clothes. However, in the anime, she comes downstairs before the sink dialogue.

MISSING SCENE:
When Oolong shows Bulma around the bathroom, a panel where she asks him for some pajamas, as she prepares to get undressed, does not appear in the anime.

Just after the last omission, a scene at Yamcha's hideout where he and Pu'er discuss their plan and prepare to head out is also non-existent in the anime.

A panel where Pu'er asks Yamcha if he looks like Goku (after transforming) is not in the anime.

Before Yamcha and Pu'er attack in the morning, they are shown watching the good guys via telescope in the manga. Yamcha also asks Pu'er to prepare the Mighty Mouse (their vehicle, presumably), and the Panzer Fast and the automatic rifle. As an aside, the Panzer Fast is the missile launcher Yamcha uses to crash the motor home. When he fires the missile, he says "Pantsaa Fasuto o kurae!!" ("Eat my Panzer Fast!!") in the manga, but just "Kore de mo kurae!!" ("Take this!!") in the anime.

MISCELLANEOUS:

The dialogue between Yamcha and Pu'er at the very beginning of the episode is filler.

Bulma and Oolong's discussion of the bathroom is extended in the anime, and she does not check for a peep hole in the manga.

The anime is a bit more explicit about Yamcha's search for the Dragon Balls. In the manga, he is not shown feeling anything soft...

While it is easy to infer based on the rest of the episode, the bomb finally going off at the end (and Yamcha and Pu'er noticing) does not happen in the manga.
